With over 50% of India’s population being under the age of 25, no movement can be successful without meaningful involvement of youth. It is important that they are aware of the subtle as well as blatant ways in which consumers are exploited and are equipped to protect not only their own consumer rights but also act as a catalyst and carry forward the movement amongst masses.
The ‘Internship’ Programme was launched on 15th September, 2012 with a view to involve students pursuing higher education with the concerns and activities of Consumers India, which are also the burning concerns of the consumers of the day! To inculcate their interest in consumer issues, they are assigned a study, which has to be completed during the period of internship on the basis of secondary as well as primary research.
Large number of studies on important consumer issues have been carried out under the able guidance of experienced mentors. Several issues, highlighted by interns in their studies, have become part of our awareness and advocacy campaigns.
List of studies undertaken by interns may be seen on the following link:
We for Change Internship:
‘We for Change Internship’ has been launched on November 7, 2015 with a view to meet increasing demand for internship from various institutions/segments. This internship focuses on acquiring knowledge about various aspects of consumer movement through talks, discussions, case studies, exercises, project work and other innovative ways and making use of that knowledge in day-to-day life.
Under this programme participants are familiarised with burning consumer concerns like consumer justice, misleading advertisements, junk food, unethical medical practices, Right to Information etc. The programme helps them make well-informed decisions by being aware consumers.
Consumers India considers the youth participating in its activities as its ambassadors and to ensure their continued involvement, enrolls them as ‘Friends of Consumers India’. They are given a Friendship Number and ideas regarding the wonders that they can do as a Friend of Consumers India are emailed to them from time to time.
